Vaccination Protocols
Puppies
A puppy must have a minimum of 2 sets of vaccinations. Vaccinations for puppies should begin at about 6 weeks of age. Puppies do not get their full immunity from Distemper, Parvovirus and the Coronavirus until 16 weeks of age. To ensure they are protected , they should have booster vaccinations every 3 to 4 weeks out to 16 weeks of age. However, a puppy or dog with no vaccinations, 4 months of age or older, still needs two sets of vaccinations for full immunity. The Rabies vaccination is usually given along with the last set of vaccinations at 16 weeks. A Bordetella vaccination is needed if the puppy will be going to puppy training, puppy day camp or boarding. Bordetella is a contagious upper respiratory cough. The Bordetella vaccine should be boostered every 6 months.

Dogs
Recommended Annual Vaccinations for dogs includes Distemper, Parvovirus, and Coronavirus. Ohio State law requires the Rabies Vaccination to be boostered one year after the first Rabies Vaccination and every 3 years thereafter. Bordetella Vaccination is required for dogs that are boarded or go to dog training or anyplace where contact with other dogs is inevitable. The Bordetella Vaccination is recommended every 6 months. Annual Lyme Disease Vaccination is available for dogs that may be exposed to tick infested areas.

Kittens

Even if a kitten or cat is 12 weeks of age or older a minimum of two sets of vaccinations are needed for full immunity. Rabies Vaccination is given along with the last set of vaccinations. If the kitten is going to be an outside cat or inside/outside cat, annual Leukemia and FIV vaccinations are also needed.
